African logistics market reports for shippers, miners and investors

AfriLens produces an African logistics market report series for freight forwarders, 3PLs, port and rail operators, corridor investors and the mining companies that depend on them. The focus is corridor economics and the border, port and rail bottlenecks that global products often treat as background detail.

Corridors we follow

Export routes decide the economics of many African mining and agricultural projects. Our logistics research compares the main corridors, including Lobito, Maputo, Dar es Salaam and Walvis Bay, looking at routing options, policy and concession changes, infrastructure projects in the pipeline, and the operational constraints reported by authorities, operators and users. Every finding is cited, so you can check it against the source. A dedicated Lobito corridor report is planned; meanwhile see our draft brief on Copperbelt sulphur and acid corridors.

SA freight rail report: concessions and private participation

South Africa's freight rail and port system is opening to private-sector participation through Transnet, with concessions and access arrangements at different stages. For shippers and miners the practical questions are who is bidding, what timelines have been published, and what changes for capacity, pricing and reliability. Our South African Freight Rail and Open Access 2026–2030 report and South Africa's Ports Under Private Partnership answer those questions from cited public sources. Transnet's third-party rail access (TRIM) and the South African private freight rail operators entering the network are covered in a draft free brief, South Africa's private freight rail operators.

What you get in each logistics report

  • A clear summary with confidence labels on key findings
  • Corridor and project comparisons built from cited data
  • Implications for shippers, miners and investors
  • A verification appendix showing sources and checks (see our methodology)
